Fast and friendly service, very clean restaurant and the food is great. Carmel rolls are A MUST! It is also in a pretty good location near several hotels and an awesome putt putt place called Pirate Cove. A good choice of a place to have breakfast.

It's a typical family style diner food, which had a good array of breakfast/brunch options. We had a caramel roll which was just like a bun overall caramel sauce, bunch of pancakes/waffles with blueberries and strawberries. The staff were super friendly. I wish I had the home-made pies but we were satiated. The hot chocolate which my friend had was pretty good too :).

What a disappointment. Came here for dinner based on the overall positive reviews and found a restaurant that Golden Corral beat in most every way. Maybe they only do breakfast right.

I was pleasantly surprised. Salad was really good. Super fresh veggies and a tasty Ranch dressing. I got the french dip and the roast beef didn't look like warmed up Lunch meat. I'll be going back.

The Millstone is your typical family style dining that I actually prefer over Denny's or amongst other family restaurants I can't name right now. The food is as good as you make of an typical American breakfast. When you go to places like these you shouldn't expect fine dining but someplace that does the job just fine, and this is the place. The service was pretty good and it can get a bit crowded here and noisy. Overall: Not the best but it'll do the job. There's many other places you can take your family to eat in the surrounding area too.

We ate at Millstone several times while staying in Rapid City. Each time we were greeted and sat within 5 minutes and approached by waitstaff immediately. The menu offers a huge variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert options. Every meal we had there was delivered quickly and hot! Not heat lamp hot but fresh cooked hot. The salad bar was fresh, well stocked, and varied. The soups were delicious. The desserts were amazing and definitely big enough to share. The prices were so reasonable and the portions were more than filling. The shining star of our experiences was our server, Tonya. Attentive, friendly, and personable, she made a great experience stellar!

Great breakfast and a staple to Rapid City. You can count on the food being quick and fresh. You also know that the prices won't break the bank. It has a down home feel and not only are the employees friendly but so is everyone who eats there.

Dinner for 7. No reservations. Place was packed. They actually worked it out and seated us within 20 minutes. Dinner was good. It did take 40 minutes to get it, but they were very, very busy. Waitress was a jewel.

It was a convent place to eat last minute and it was right next to our hotel. The food was okay. Their salad bar was lacking, the portions were very small. The service was good and accommodating. Denny's or Perkins has better food but not service.

This is a residential restaurant in Rapid City, which is next door to the Comfort Inn and the Days Inn on N Lacrosse Street. Like most diners, this place serves breakfast all day. This place is comparable to Denny's. Nothing really special about this place although the prices are in step with other sit down restaurants. They have traditional items and some others. I did like the fact that they did serve breakfast all day. I ultimately had the steak and eggs. The service was average and the waitress was friendly. Typical for anywhere and anytime. Recommended I'd you are in the area. The ambiance of this place is good, especially during the workday morning. Quite quiet, since everyone is commuting to or at work already. I was here at about 8am. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal and I would like to return again. They also had wifi in the restaurant, so after I finished eating and paid for my breakfast, I remained there for 20 minutes more just to do business on my iPhone. Besides, most of the restaurant was empty anyway. They won't just shoo me away. This place reminds me of like an IHOP too, although not specializing in pancakes. The parking situation is plentiful, as they share parking lots with the Comfort Inn and possibly the Days Inn as well. B

This was yet another restaurant that came highly rated in spots online, but the actual reality doesn't match. In this case, due to its proximity directly across the hotel parking lot from us and after a weary day of sightseeing and exploring Rapid, we decided to not chance our son throwing a fit in a restaurant and just dine-in at the hotel room. Cue up the closest restaurant. My wife called in the order for pickup and got a very reasonable time for pickup, which was 10 - 15 minutes. I waited 15, then slowly walked over to get it. After spending some time picking over some of the ubiquitous literature that is in nearly every business in Rapid City, I found a couple I didn't already have and made my way through the foyer into the restaurant. What I found is similar in tone to every family style restaurant, from Perkins to Embers to IHOP to Village Inn, though this one was much closer in tone to a chain called Dee's in Salt Lake City. Once I got to the counter, I also found I was going to be waiting for the actual food, what wound up a good additional 10 minutes. If I'm going to take the trouble to call something in and am given a time and it is not ready by then, that's an automatic star deduction for me, since I find that simply inexcusable. Not to spend too much time with this, but the whole point of calling something in is so that they have whatever time they need to prepare it and if they are giving a time of X minutes, they need to keep their word, simple as that. The counter girl was friendly, though and I could almost forgive it (partially) were it not for the food itself. I was excited to see a Monte Cristo sandwich on their menu and gleefully ordered that, while my wife got some sort of senior skillet to match her appetite. Hers was prepared competently, if not anything special, while mine was significantly less delightful. What I had in mind was a delectable offering from a place in Salt Lake called Hopper's. who formerly made a rolled ham and cheese sandwich, battered it, deep fried the whole thing so that it looked more like a gigantic golden fish stick or chicken strip. I'm not doing it justice, but it was basically a fried log in delectable beer batter. What I got here was a hot ham and cheese on French toast and a cup of something vaguely raspberry-tasting, but borderline noxious and which I discarded. I think Hopper's spoiled me, but in no way is slapping some ham and cheese between two pieces of French toast and then melting the cheese a Monte Cristo. At the very least, the entire thing should be battered and fried, which this was clearly not. This was one of most disappointing things I had in Rapid City, especially given the somewhat marginal fries. I probably should have stuck to breakfast, which is really where that type of restaurant excels. I wouldn't necessarily hesitate to eat there again, if I was in the same proximity, but I would considerably lower my expectations. Fine dining this ain't.

During a visit back to SD, this was by FAR the best service we received. We went for breakfast, I had the French toast and it was delicious. Prices can't be beat and I have to reiterate how fast and great the service was. thank you for redeeming my SD trip!

Not great but not deserving of the lowest rating. Prices ok, food bland. We went for the Indian tacos--the beef has the re-fried beans mixed in supposedly. I disagree. Less than satisfactory. There are much better places to spend your money.

My fiance and I had breakfast at The Millstone recently on our vacation while in Rapid City. I have to admit, I'm a little bit leery of any restaurant that labels itself as a "family restaurant". My fiance didn't have my apprehensions over this label, so we ended up giving The Millstone a try. The short version of this review is that I should have stuck with my initial instinct to skip it based on the "family restaurant" label. My fiance ordered an omelet and I ordered the chicken fried steak with a side of their smoked breakfast sausage. Service was quick and friendly, though we did wait quite some time for our initial glasses of water to be brought out. When the food arrived, I was pretty sure the meal was going to be a let down before my first bite. My fiance's omelet had what appeared to be half slices of Kraft Singles melted on top of it. Both our hash browns were pale and limp looking. The chicken fried steak at least looked OK. After tasting the hash browns, my initial visual reaction was confirmed. They had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Even salt and pepper couldn't save them. We both left our hash browns untouched after our initial bite. The omelet was similarly bland. My chicken fried steak was OK but not great. The one and only standout of the meal was the smoked breakfast sausage, it was actually quite good. Unfortunately after our experience, we won't be back to The Millstone. On the plus side, after this experience, I think my fiance now feels like there is some merit to my opinion of "family restaurants".

Outstanding. Try the ribs with a sweet potato on the side.

Its a family diner, plain & simple. Dont expect anything out of the ordinary and dont expect your steaks or burgers cooked to order. They got ours wrong. Our server was nice enough. We were staying at one of the motels nearby before heading into Custer State park to camp. Food quality and presentation was below average. I would not return.
